Singing is a gift of God it is at the heart of all worship. Singing comes naturally to all humans it is an intrinsic part of our lives, we sing at all moments of our lives to celebrate joy, gratitude and grief.
Music in liturgy helps to bind people and communities together so that we collectively sing with one heart and one voice. Singing hymns and songs allows us to share our sentiments and love for each other and our love for God and to commit ourselves to meaning them. When we come together as a community to sing and in the sharing of our talents we can individually offer repentance, praise and thank God. Singing brings us together especially when we sing the hymns and songs with sincerity and with meaning.
The purpose of having a choir is to learn new music to introduce to the congregation so the congregation can "follow along" and eventually learn, to learn new music and to sing it at appropriate points during liturgies to allow the congregation to reflect on the words and pray and meditate with the help of the beautiful singing.
If you have an interest in music, talent in playing an instrument or just always wanted to sing please join and support your parish in singing by taking active part in any of the events listed here, attending choral rehearsals whenever you can and help enrich the mass both before, during and until the next gathering. Our choir also strives to foster a sense of camaraderie. When people enjoy being together, they are more likely to come regularly and sing. Please take a risk and the plunge in sharing your talents or trying something new and join your parish singing group.
