Appointment with the parish priest
Parents who are considering applying for a nursery or primary school should make an appointment to discuss the matter with our parish priest as early as possible.

Primary schools
There are many primary schools in our local area.

Inspections
All the Catholic schools in the area are considered to be first rate by government (Ofsted) inspectors and are also inspected by the Archdiocese of Southwark Commission for Schools and Colleges.

Admissions
For details of primary school admission policies and procedures you should contact your local borough in the first instance, which is usually Lambeth for those attending mass at Sts Simon + Jude, and then speak to the schools you are interested in to find out more.

You should also make an appointment with your parish priest, as explained above.

Children start primary school in reception class when they are "rising 5", that is, they have their 5th birthday in that school year.

Some primary schools have nurseries (generally speaking for the "rising 4s", that is, ages 3 to 4 years old), while others do not, and the admissions procedures for nurseries may be different from those for the schools to which they belong.

Unfortunately many primary schools in our area are in effect oversubscribed so it is important to check the admissions criteria and the availability of places in each school carefully before you apply for a place for your child.

As a general guide to admissions, siblings of existing pupils usually have first priority, with church schools having faith criteria and other schools having distance or "catchment area" criteria but you should always check admissions policies carefully for each school your family is interested in as they can differ quite a lot from school to school.
